I could identify aspects of my upbringing that consciously suppressed my will to move forward into the realms of taboo subjects such as that of a Black persons' identity and the concept of returning to Africa. I was even warned by my aunt Mo. my guardian mother at an early age that:
"I should not talk about being Black or read books by people who talk about being Black or African because I am Black enough already."
Because of the time of my arrival into the UK at 6 years, I was considerably behind my British peers at school, especially since I had come from a Jamaican rural environment. I was instantly deemed as a misfit
worthy only of being sent back to the 'yard' (Jamaica) from whence I came, by my estranged parents.
